Crossed over into Florida this morning and just past Jacksonville the sky turned black and then the rains started to pound down. We stopped for lunch at a Flying Jay's truck stop, just past St Augustine. There was a nice buffet there, so we all had a good lunch. After lunch I had a browse through the extensive gift shop, and was absolutely horrified to find real baby alligator heads, & their feet made into key chains and back scratchers. After petting that beautiful little alligator baby on Skidway Island it made me feel physically sick to know that a company could exploit such an awesome creature. It dampened my first impression of Florida. We arrived at the Daytona Beach campground www.internationalrvdaytona.com in the late afternoon, and the swimming pool was a welcome relief to us all after a long days travelling! The kids were fascinated by some teeny-tiny frogs that we rescued from the pool. Later while I was going for a walk I was warned by a friendly co-camper on a bike not to get too close to the lake/river at the edge of the property, as a territorial alligator evidently lived there. Needless to say I kept my distance and shortened the duration of my walk!
