After a quick breakfast, we hit Interstate 20 again, heading towards Texas – ye haw! By the time we had reached Taylor, TX the temperature had rocketed up to 22 degrees. For lunch we stopped at a buffet restaurant called Sweet Sue's Restaurant and boy, were we stuffed to the gills by the time we left - $7.99 all you could eat including dessert. The waitress was really friendly and we loved her accent – very Texan. Kate just loved the mashed potatoes and gravy there and had 3 helpings.
From lunch it was only a 30 minute drive to Athens, TX and the R.V yard where Fred and Mike bought our 5th Wheel in 2007. We were greeted like long, lost friends by Lex, the parts guy who Fred has been in touch with on e-mail for well over a year, so it was neat to meet him finally. We felt like movie stars ourselves when he showed us the family photo of us taken in front of the 5th wheel in Buffalo, NY 2007 that is on the wall of their office! Quite a few of the other staff members who remembered Fred came up to say hello, and also the owner Carlton, who was very friendly and made a point of coming over to chat with us. After stocking up on some parts for the RV, Fred, Kate & I had a nosy through some of the 5th wheels, while Josh parked himself on the couch with an RC car magazine that Lex gave him.
Some beautiful vehicles there, and Kate kept asking if we could just 'borrow' one to take with us! Both kids were especially enamored by one 40 foot 5th wheel that had a bunk loft in the back! So if you're ever wanting to buy an RV in the U.S – go to see Carlton at Athen's RV Texas – he'll take good care of you!
We hit the local Cracker Barrel for dinner tonight – we both had the beef roast – some veges at last! Kids had the usual Mac n Cheese – just had a grilled cheese sandwich with mac n cheese as a side! He'll be turning yellow soon, for sure. Well maybe that orange that Americans have for the colour of their cheese, at least!

Hi everyone,
the photos and videos of Athens, Texas sure brings back memories of searching for, and buying the truck and 5th wheel back in 2007. I would do it all again in a moment if I had the chance. Any desires of bringing back another 5th wheel? Some of the new ones sure look flash. Keep up the daily reports, most enjoyable. - M.G. -
