When it was our turned we closed in and the hole pod came right up to the boat. They were swimming right under the bow of the boat. There must have been about a dozen of them, it was great to see them so close up.
We left the dolphins and headed out of the bay to the " Hole in the Rock".
When we got to the rock the captain got us to all sit inside as he said there can be quite a swell as you approach the rock. we slowly entered into the hole and crept through to the other side
The captain once again asked us all to sit down as it would be a bit rough going back into the bay because we would be running into the tide.
As we went back into the bay we met up with a sailing ship , which was out on a cruise itself.
We also saw some more dolphins and stopped for a while to watch as they chased the fish. The captain said we would have to move on and as we did so the dolphins started to ride the bow wave of the boat. When the boat got too fast for them they dropped back and started to ride on the boats wake. It look brilliant and they seemed to really enjoy themselves!!!
The boat stopped at Russell on its way back and we all got off so we could have a look round. Russell had been to capital of New Zealand for a short time when the Europeans first arrived in the islands. It was once known as the " Hell hole of the north " because of the troubles caused by the whalers and fisherman.
I left the others to look round the local church and decided to get something to eat. I had spotted a couple of the local road workers going into one of the fish shops, so as that is always a sign of a good cafe, I went and had some fish and chips for lunch. After wards I decided I wouldn't wait for the others and got the ferry back to Paihia. I then strolled along the beach and back to the hotel.
This was the life , lazying on the beach in the sun!!!!
