Finally arrived in Lima. After a thirty minute wait they found our bags and we jammed like sardines into a taxi for the 20 minute ride to the hotel. Lima is huge - over 9 million people - and mostly horizontal, not that many tall skyscrapers for a city of this size. And it is pretty polluted, the air has a diesel scent to it. The traffic is a thick as the smog and the drivers are crazy.
We arrived alive and hooked up with Alan and Allison - who had booked a 'swim with the seals' excursion.
They headed off with Ron and Matthew in tow. Michael and I crashed for the morning and explored the area around the hotel.
When the sealers returned, Ron, Michael and Alan O. grabbed a cab for a quick trip to Plaza de Armes.
We wandered around the old colonial area of the city and made it back in time to meet Julio, our tour leader, for the trip briefing. Out for a nice dinner on a local plaza, with way too many pisco sours......
