Siem Riep is the "suburb" town just about 5 kilomters south of the Angkor Wat Archeological Park. It was Nilu's birthday so we stayed somewhere a little bit nicer than we usually do and right near the action. Our impression of "Bar street" (the street that caters to all tourists), was that it was the KO SAN ROAD of Cambodia, but with better class, higher prices and less chaos. But still, if you know Ko San Road in Bangkok, you know what I am talking about.
The place is nice, completely designed for the "Cultural-Family-Vacation". You can have a nice French and Khmere meal along with a traditional dance for entertainment, or you can walk along the streets and shop in the nicest night market we have ever stept into in all of SEA.
The market is fair trade and designed so nicely that we would come and browse and look at all the nice things and then go to the market restaurant which was SO nice!
During the day it was HOT HOT HOT. We found a swimming pool a little aways from everything and caters to NGO workers, but totally nice with a restaurant as well! When not in the pool, we would roam the streets, make friends with the locals, and eat at a Mexican restaurant on a daily basis (1st one in Asia that was edible!)
One day it was so hot, Mathew wanted a trim for his hair. Well the guy pulled out his shaver and quickly wacked away all of MAthew's hair! HE was seriously bald for a couple days. The barber even wanted full payment for such a whack job! Insane. so - take some humor with Mathew's hair! (heehee)
This is the town, some nice things to see, but the real attraction is the GREAT ANKOR WAT!!
