Tubing Down the River
OK, the main attraction is "TUBING". Vang Vieng has made tubing their main commodity (besides the beautiful scenery). What it is, is they rent out tubes for you to float down the sleepy river for about 2+ kilometers. You rent a tube, and they load you onto a tuk tuk that drives you up a couple kilometers for the "launching" point. We experienced our "tubing day" with our friends, Dan, Yolanda, Sonja, Sasha and Andrea. What fun it was!

We floated down the river which was so slow that sometimes you had to paddle with your arms. Along the banks of the river, the locals have made bars that entice you to stop, by providing wicked rope swings, ziplines, and trapeze swings to jump off of. There were also many places with volleyball courts! It was so easy to get stuck at one of these places and never move on.

The bars had all kinds of whacky music playing: some had Cher while most had techno beats. At one bar, I was at the wrong place at the wrong time and the bartender had me drink a shot of snake/scorpion juice! Well - "here's to new expriences!"
they made me do it too! - couldne refuse
There were a lot of Japanese tourists that didnt know how to swim and they all had lifejackets.

Sonja's turn to try the jump
Mathew had fun showing them how to "sit" inside of them and bob around in the water. THey really liked that.

Mathew LOVED the Jump
Everyone had such a fun time but we couldnt make it the entire way. The sun went down on us and we had to just "give up" and take ourselves to shore (it was really cold!)
Anyways, enjoy the pics - we sure had a great time!
