The beaches are long and the waves are rolling, but we must say, "they just aren't as beautiful as Hawaii"....until we see the sunsets!! Holy Cow! Seriously, in all my life, i have never seen a sunset like they are here, in Bali. They are like the colored-enhanced postcards that aren't real - but these area!! I think of Katie and Lizzie when i see these sunsets - i just know they would love to see them first hand... We heard that there isn't anything like a Bali Sunset - and that was not an exaggeration. Check out the pictures!!
Take note: everywhere you go, people come up to you, grab you and want to sell you things, many, many things. UGH! It makes walking around kind of a drag. Everywhere we go: "Need transport?" (motor scooters are $4/day and we have seen up to 4 people driving on one! Even little kids are driving them!) "Need massage?" "Buy this, Buy that..." You can seriously get anything you want here for pennies on the dollar...
So, we sit and watch one of these gorgeous sunsets and this woman comes up to me and sits down next to us, trying to sell me her bracelets. I say, "no thank you, no shopping." And then she looks at the ones I am already wearing. I am wearing my cheap abalone bracelets that i got in Hawaii, Peggy's Picks. She says she wants my bracelets. I think to myself, "well, I bet these came from Indonesia anyways..." and i tell her that if she has something i really like, that i will trade with her. Unfortunately, i didn't like what she had, and she is ok with it - but then tries to sell me her wedding ring! OMG. Just awful. The sunset was over and we walk away... just another day in Bali.
Walking back to out hotel, we see that we are walking under a nightly bat migration! So cool!! I like these bats and we get to see them every night after sunset.
Beautiful dinners are about $4 but you can still get them for $2 as well. Bintang is the local beer here and its really good: an extra large one runs around $1.50. Everywhere, people smile at us and everyone else. Ahh, very nice. WE LOVE BALI!!!
