OK - it isnt a mountain and it isnt blue.... Very cold and big hills. The hostel is EMPTY and huge. We have seen only 5 other backpackers. Its a very quiet town with everything closed by 5:30 pm. Most of the pubs in town close by 11pm. We happened to be in the only one open till 2am - and thats because dinners were advertised for only $5! That first night we made a lot of friends at the pub! Playing free pool all night with many locals (one being the aboriginal guide in the area) and a few visiting from Barcelona. It was a real fun night with a bunch of people enviting us to their house afterwards. We walked with them under such a clear starry night! (the southern hemisphere is beautiful). At the house, we listened to Aussie Classic Rock - they were quite an interesting bunch in there early 20's. We walked back to the hostel to have the entire room to ourselves! :)
The next day we roamed around the mountains looking at all the nice views. Beautiful scenery: Echo Point, Three Sisters, a huge canyon and valleys and dramatic rock formations. One thing interesting were a bunch of carved out boulders. They were carved out hollow to form a shelter with carved out table and benches inside. Pretty CoOl.
Aboriginal was playing didjeridoo outside on the plateau. That night we had the place to ourselves again :). We will take the train in the morning and will head back to town after stopping at Featherdale Nature Preserve..
