We woke up at 6am, and sleepily got ready to board the zodiac at 7:15am to Magdalena Island which hosts a giant Magellan penguin colony right on the Straight of Magellan. It was still dark when we woke up but by the time we were on the island we witnessed a beautiful sunrise. The penguins were just starting their day making their way to the shoreline to bathe and feed. There were thousands of them! Some let me get so close I could almost touch them. One would stand there and pose. He would make an excellent model!
We arrived in Punta Arenas at 11am and disembarked the ship saying our goodbye's to our dinner mates and new friends. Punta Arenas isnīt that exciting as itīs a port town. The only interesting thing about it is the town square has beautiful old mansions surrounding it. Thatīs about it. We checked into a hostel which was a far cry away from luxury than we had previously experienced on the ship, but we wanted to have all the experiences we could muster. We walked around the city and even took a taxi to the Zona Franco which is a duty free shopping area to find some supplies. We decided that Punta Arenas was a pit stop and that we would depart for Puerto Natales tomorrow.
