Day 48 - Cape Farewell
Entry 41 of 86 | show all | print this entry |

It was a cloudy day so a beach day was out. We drove to Cape Farewell, the northernmost point on the S. Island. We did some hiking to the beach passing rolling farm hills all the way to the beach dunes. The tide was rising quickly so we couldn't walk around the point but we did enjoy the dunes, though it was hard to walk on them. I can imagine what the Sahara would be like, only hotter! We took some photos of Farewell Spit, a 15 miles or so long dune sandbar that supports all sorts of wildlife. It was gorgeous. We drove back over Takaka Hill the way we came and stayed over at the Top 10 Holiday Park in Motueka.
