Day 44 - Abel Tasman here we come!

We've spent the past few days in Nelson so that Jim could get some work done on the Aloha Condos website. Not much to do in Nelson unless you are ready to spend a lot of money on outdoor tours. We checked out the small town. It's cute but not as exciting as I built it up to be in my mind. This last day here we went to Tahunanui beach. It's a very nice sandy beach and at low tide the tide goes out very, very far. We built up the courage to get into the water, and boy was it cold! but it was refreshing after a while. We headed up the coast toward Abel Tasman National Park. This area is gorgeous. The teal blue sea lapped up on golden sandy beaches. The tropical forest met the beach. We parked off the side of the road right in Marahau, a small town sitting right outside the entrance to the Abel Tasman Park. We parked right at an estuary and watched the storks and ducks. Lone boats sat lopsided on the mud, marking the low tide. Tractor after tractor picked up kayakers ¼ mile out to sea on the sand flat pulling in kayaks and water taxi boats. I'd never seen such a drastic tide table.
