Queenstown, the Sun Valley of New Zealand. An old gold miners turned tourist town where you can find Haute Couture to mountain climbing gear. Queenstown is the adventure capital of NZ. Paragliding, jet boating, kayaking, bungee jumping, its all here. We arrived in town around noon and checked into the Top Ten Holiday Park. Jim was here 5 years ago and he has said its changed drastically. Condos and homes are going up everywhere. Most of them are Aussies building holiday homes high up on the mountains giving them breathtaking views of the town and below and mountains surrounding it. We walked around town and it was surprisingly warm. We even saw a woman wearing a bikini at the lake shoreline. The water is way too cold for us! Actually, Queenstown is the warmest place we've encountered while being in NZ. The young and the hip walk around with shorts and tank tops. Europeans sip their espresso in the waterfront cafes and a crowd of 20 something's drink beer at the hip place of the week for happy hour. We lay on the grass and I actually dozed off in the sun. For some reason I was exhausted. I think it was all the driving. We bought awesome ice cream. I had never tried lavender with honey ice cream and it was good! It was a relaxing day in Queenstown.
