Adios Sydney. After a short taxi ride to Avis and sitting in construction traffic and then car accident congestion for an hour we were finally on our way up north toward Brisbane. We were finally able to see the real Australia, outside the city. The terrain is made up of rolling hills covered by eucalyptus trees. For my San Diego friends- imagine Rancho Santa Fe for as far as the eye can see- and farther. It's very beautiful here, very green, despite a drought. After a 4 hour trip we arrived in Taree, a small town where my mother's friends Annette and John live and where my mother is thinking of moving from Brisbane. Annette, I've known all my life since she met my mother while living in Los Angeles before I was born. John is here boyfriend, an American. They both retired here 3 years ago. It was great seeing them both. They live on 20 acres in the bush. We took a walk that afternoon and saw a group of kangaroos! It was cool to see them in the wild! We startled them and they ran away.
