Last Saturday was Fleet Week and today we went to the Red Bull Soapbox Race held in Dolores Park, Mission District, San Francisco. If you want to see what I am talking about, go here www.redbullsoapboxusa.com
39 teams are judged on four criteria - speed (of course), the creativity of their car and showmanship and the quality of their performance prior to crossing the starting line. This really was so much fun to watch and the atmosphere at the park was great. Apparently there was 60,000 people there so you can imagine the hype. Some of the teams were really entertaining to watch (as well as the stacks!). It is not everyday that you see a giant rubic cube or donut on wheels go flying down a hill! Unfortunately with so many people, getting photos was kinda hard to take.
On Wednesday we went to the California Academy of Sciences, to see more go here www.calacademy.org Every third Wednesday of each month there is a free day (instead of $25 pp) so you can imagine how busy it was. We got through the line in less then half an hour so it wasn't too bad. The actual design of the building was more interesting then the actual contents itself. There is a living roof that has been made that looks like just a flower garden but is actually layers of installation, I would go on more but I won't bore you all.
Wednesday afternoon we also made a trip to the Apple Store.. Jason is now the new owner of the latest Macbook Pro. It actually went on sale 10 minutes before we got there which was kinda cool. Now I can have my computer back to myself :D
The rest of the week we just chilled out and enjoyed the area and meeting people in the hostel. Jason enjoyed this especially Tuesday night which was the 'Beer Olympics' at the hostel hosted by the San Francisco Brewery. Free beer and drinking games.. what more could you ask for? (Free vodka! :P).
That is about it.. we are planning on staying in San Francisco until Friday or Saturday and then going to Yosemite for a couple of days/nights, then to Las Vegas for a couple of nights, then the Grand Canyon (looking into hiking down it and camping if possible) and then head to La where we plan on flying to New York (or around that area). As the Australian dollar is still looking very crappy we might have to head to Canada earlier to start work (ie. Ally starting work) and getting a place that is cheaper then hostel accommodation! Unfortunately we have had no luck with sublets or work exchange in San Francisco and this has helped with $$. Oh.. we also plan on walking over the Golden Gate Bridge before we leave San Francisco! Ciao
