Day 11: Portland to Portland?

Miles covered: about 30 !!!
Abby meltdown: don't recall one -- maybe we just didn't notice b/c we weren't in a closed vehicle for 8 hours
weather: very pleasant, though a bit overcast -- in the 70s (sorry to those backing back east)
highlights: not being in van; dinner @ Burgerville

Huh? Having reached the west coast, we took a day away from the Odyssey. We let Abby roll around all she wanted, spent a lazy couple of hours in downtown Portland, and finally brought the Odyssey into Beaverton Honda for its first maintenance. (The light went on in Idaho and we figured it probably wasn't a good idea to go 5000 miles beyond the recommended oil change and maintenance.)

Highlight of the day: Burgerville. Sean and Suzanne took us to a regional burger joint and might just have been the best fast food we've had. Paul especially raves about the current seasonal shake -- blackberry. Ann thought the Walla Walla onion rings were the best! If you're in the northwest and need a burger, look no further.

Observations about Portland: they know their coffee, with every little shop offering espresso (there are scores of these closet-sized little shops in parking lots everywhere, though Ann prefers actual coffee shops over the drive through variety); walkers must really get the right of way b/c they were always walking in front of us, no matter the lights; the people are indeed overly nice.

Trivia: The right to name Portland was decided by a coin toss b/t the founders. What would the city have been called if the outcome of the toss had gone the other way?
Bonus: Portland claims to have both the US's largest and smallest of what urban feature?
Bonus Bonus (since we had no trivia yesterday): What is the name of Portland's "Royal" ambassadors?

Abby was very interested (and definitely not scared of) Sean and Suzanne's dogs...they were a little more weary of her and all the attention she was getting, but generally all got along well.
