After our unfortunately late night last night, waking up was difficult this morning. We managed, however, to get to the train station with plenty of time. The first leg of our ride was about 4 hours and involved crossing between the island of Hokkaido and the island of Honshu via a long undersea tunnel (kind of like the train that runs between England and France beneath the English Channel). The next part of our journey was about two hours and we arrived in Sendai even more exhuasted than we did in Hakodate.
We were able to overcome our fatigue and head for the island of Matsushima, listed as one of the three most beautiful places in Japan. Our first order of business, however, was food. For our last real meal in Japan we chose a somewhat classy restaurant right by the ocean. I had fried river eel. And it was wonderful. Beyond wonderful. Unfortunately it was also expensive and I am coasting into the finish line on fumes, moneywise.
We left the restaurant and went to the last temple of our trip. It was pretty incredible, even crowded as it was. We then crossed a huge bridge to an island where you can view the rest of the bay and all the other islands in it.
We stumbled back to the hotel, dead tired and ready to be home. So very very very very ready. Now we are killing time in the hotel lobby waiting for our flight. Impatiently.
