San Diego and SHAMU!!
Entry 29 of 62 | show all | print this entry |
Took a slow drive down the Pacific Coast Highway, even pulled over at one point so we could run down to the sea and put our hands it in. We've now done that in the Atlantic and the Pacific! Ate lunch in the car by the sea then carried on to San Diego. Got to our accommodation which had a lounge and a kitchen (yes, I can cook again!!) and was good value for money.
The day after it was really raining, hadn't seen rain like it since leaving England (and we hadn't missed it either!) Went along to Seaworld which was pretty dead due to the rain. Saw the dolphin show and then went on the Journey to Atlantis ride that didn't get you too wet. Then went on the Arctic simulator ride which was also pretty good (it was indoors so you got to dry out briefly).
Saw some penguins, seals and polar bears then went on the rapids. Didn't get that wet, and as there was no queue we decided to go on again. What a mistake!! A big wave came over onto us and I got drenched. Everything was wet, my hair, clothes, even knickers and socks. When I walked, I squelched!! (There's something you didn't need to imagine huh?!)
Went to the car to eat lunch and dry off a bit then saw the Shamu the Killer Whale show. Got some hot chocolate in some Seaworld beakers that we got to keep (it's a cheap souvenir!!) which warmed us up on the inside. The show was a little cheesy and clearly geared towards children, but it was still good fun. We didn't sit in the soak zone as we were wet enough already, but it was funny watching the people get soaked in the "soak zone". I think the funniest thing is the look of shock on their faces, that maybe they thought they wouldn't get soaked. Isn't the naming of the area 'soak zone' a bit of a giveaway?!
After that we were a bit fed up of being so wet and cold so we went back to the hotel. I cooked a lovely dinner (I can say it was lovely, I cooked it!) and then saw Juno. It is by far the best film I've seen in a long time, and Neil liked it so much he bought the soundtrack!
