Last night I stayed at the Reserva Nacional Natural Puracé where the wind howled with a vengeance and the temperature was ffffrfrfrfrrrreeeezing!  Brrrrrrrr... popsicle sticks! :)

I woke up this morning at 5:15 with the intent to hike a bit to watch the sunrise- I figured the high mountains and the gorgeous, lush scenery would make for a memorable morning.  I walked about 3 steps before heading back to the safety of my sleeping bags cocoon.  The memorable sunrise would have to wait for another morning!  :)

Walking the 5 km to the road where the bus would hopefully pass within a reasonable amount of time was no easy task.  The 38 pounds of my backpack felt like 100 as I walked down the muddy road. As I walked at a snails pace I started to take a mental inventory of the contents in my backpack... hoping to find something I could unload at my next stop- all I came up with was I could do without 5 pairs of socks!  :)

When I finally made it to the main road there was a man that pointed me in the direction of a lookout point. He said that I might be able to catch a glimpse of the Andean Condor- the symbol of the Andes.  Their wingspans reach a massive 2.8 meters!  Although I hadn`t talked to one fellow traveler who has had such luck as to spot one of these endangered birds I figured ¨what the heck.¨

The lookout point alone was magnificent.  I stood breathless looking at the land surrounding me.  Hoping to memorize every detail so that I might never forget this moment.  I glanced behind me at the road and could see a bus creeping my way.  I grabbed my pack and took one more glance at the valley below- and what would you know... a HUGE white faced- jet black body of an Andean Condor soared my way.  My heart was pounding like crazy as I could not believe my luck!  I was able to snap a couple of quick pictures before having to run to catch my bus.  (I will post them at a later time- when the connection is a bit faster!)

Until next time... Ciao!
