Getting ready in the mornign was so surreal. I felt like I was getting ready for school, rather than flying to another country and completely unbalancing the way I knew life and how to live it. Mom and Dad and I ate at Chili's, but I couldn't eat much. It was just too weird to be hanging out normally, with this huge thing called "you're going to Italy in a few hours" hanging over my head. We got to the airport many hours early, and walked around and people watched, killing time. Finally it was time to go through security. I hugged and kissed then goodbye then embarked on my solo journey. When I got through I waved goodbye and then locked my jaw in an attempt to keep from crying. It didn't really work and then my jaw hurt as well. I was still pretty early for my flight, so I was one of the first people on board. It was fun to sit there and watch the people slowly filter on, silently guessing who was American, and who was foreign. And then we were off, and I was in the sky.
