Well... I'm leaving soon for my next adventure on Friday to Guatemala. I am starting off solo and then my friend Juanita (Jua) will meet up with me on Jan. 7th. Its been crazy getting ready for this trip especially between finishing up another semester of graduate school earning straight A's, celebrating Christmas with my family and friends and working my tail off to save money for this trip. I'd say its a well earned vacation. :)

I am still working out the final details of where my first stop will be. I booked my first night in Guatemala City and then the following day if all works out, I'll be on a bus to Coban and spend New Year's there or in the surrounding towns. Someone on a travel blog mentioned that Mel Gibson got the idea for the movie Apocalypto by being there New Years Eve. I'll let you know what I see. I'm not to big into horror or anything that will scare me so I might leave early if thats the case.

My packing list does not include as many things as it did when I was in Costa Rica, but it is as follows:

Clothes:

1 Sarong
2 pairs of socks
2 pairs of pants
1 pair of capris
2 Tee shirts
2 long sleeve tee under armour (thanks Mary and Jay)
3 tank tops
1 pull over
2 bathing suits
1 pair of sandals
1 pair of keen sandals
1 rain coat

Gear:

1 Bandanna
Hair ties
Medication (Malaria meds, Advil)
most wipes and anti bacteria gel
Sun block 15 and 30
Aloe
Moleskin
1st aid kit
Safety pins
head light
Alarm
Extra batteries
MP3 Player
Body lotion
sleep sack
Camera
Charger
Ear plugs
toe nail clipper and tweezers
a set of silverware
lots of extra zip lock bags
Shower supplies

Surprisingly my bag does not even seem that full. I figure if I need anything else, I'll buy it there. I don't expect to spend more than $600 while I'm there. From what I've researched, most hostels are around $3 -$15, food is around $2 - $6 a meal, and trasportation between cities should is around $1 - $6 at most. I figure I can budget around $25 a day some days more and some days less.

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and a great new year! I will email again when I land in Guatemala City. Throughout my trip I'll also try to upload pictures onto the this website. I cannot promise because the Internet can be extremely slow and can take forever. :( If I am able to, I will. Feel free to comment or leave messages, I love to get mail while I'm away.

Hi Allie
Happy New Year. Hope all is well. I may have some great news to start off your New Year. A friend of mine needs a sign language tutor for her son. She also has some connections with her school district and could possibly get you a job there. I think its a great way to start '08'. Stay safe.Talk to you soon.
