Where I stayed
My New Years was nice. Corinne, her mom Leigh, and our two friends in NJ went out to the Argentinean Grill. Had a fantastic dinner and by the end we were all too tired to go out. I won't say I told you so, but I did… : ) I went back to the dorm rooms, passed out and slept well. Supposedly there were fireworks that went off at midnight. I slept right through them.
it rained the last two days here and since I am in Central America, EVERYTHING was closed on Sunday. Leigh, Corinne and I made some food at their apartment that they are renting. After staying there for a few hours I was getting stir crazy so we headed out for dinner. It was an early night but it was a lot of fun.
Yesterday I went to the airport but I had some ticketing issues so a friend helped me out by booking me another flight how. However because its holiday season, all flights are completely booked until Thursday... Weh weh... There really isn't anything more I can do because I am at the mercy of the airlines.
Once I realized that I couldn't leave last night and I was stuck here on the Island, I ended up heading back to West Bay. I couldn't get back into the dorms because the dive shop was closed so I couldn't go there. Instead I took a cab from the airport to Corinne's place. I got out of the taxi and Corinne saw me. She had a baffled look on her face wondering why I was there. The girls in the room next to her thought it might have been the airlines delivering their luggage that has been MIA for two days. Corinne and her mom graciously welcomed me into their apartment... lol... what a day.
Once everything was settled, my flight home, and connected with a few people, we went out and ate dinner at our favorite place... Chicken. This time I was able to order a cinnamon roll for dessert which was out of this world. Delicious. It was a crazy day yesterday but I am so thankful that I made friends while traveling here. I'm not sure what I would have done otherwise.
Not sure what we are going to do today. Its after 10am now... sun is starting to come out. There's a nice breeze to cool us off. Corinne is cooking some green bananas we got. They will never turn yellow. Locals boil them or fry them like plantains. They are OK. its basically a starchy food. Corinne's neighbors who lost their luggage two days ago when they arrived here are off the airport to see if they arrived. They are stopping near a mega supermarket where you can get cheap things. I asked them to pick up some more bug spray. They just love me down here, lol.
Hope you all are having a great start to a New Year!
