Got to Huaraz by a bus which insisted on breaking down about every two hours, so we got to see sunrise over the Cordillera Blanca from the top of a double decker. We made the journey beside an Australian girl who seemed to have a few issues in her life as we could hear her screaming hysterically down the phone at someone from our Hostel later in the day.
Tired of the amateur soap opera, we headed off to the Laguna's Llanganuco to crystal turquoise lakes nestled in the mountains. We had two of the friendliest (or hungriest) donkeys keep us company for a while. After the lakes we went to the town of Yungay which was buried by a massive landslide in 1970, killing 18 thousand people as they slept, only the top of the cathedral is poking out from the rocks and gravel of the landslide.
Found the best restaurant so far, just off the main square called Bistro de los Andes where the Chutney Mango Chicken curry is to die for! Off to Lima by sleeper bus tonight, our first full Cama so hoping for a good nights sleep. More thumbnails ...
