Our first day in London started at our hotel with a walk through the streets of Notting Hill. We then took a walk in Kensington Gardens. Some of the highlights included the Lady Diana playground, Broadway (the main thoroughfare), the boating pond, Kensington Palace, Prince Albert memorial and the Royal Albert hall.

We then took the underground to the Tower of London and spent some time in the tower viewing Traitors Gate, the White Tower, the Jewel Tower and the crown jewels plus most of the lesser known towers, and the army barracks. Crossing the Thames via Tower Bridge we took the walk along the south bank of the Thames river with its many attractions. Some of those we managed to see were the HMS Belfast, City Hall, Southwark Cathedral, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, the Rose Theatre, the Golden Hinde replica, the London Eye and Hay's Galleria. The views of the river and the houses of parliament from the London Eye side are well worthwhile.

On our walk along the south bank we took the opportunity to cross the Millenium Bridge and pay a visit to St Paul's Cathedral one of the major London attractions. This was followed by a visit to the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and the old Jewel Tower. We ended our day with a short boat cruise down the Thames starting at Westminster Bridge and ending at Tower Bridge.

One of the really good things about London is that there is so much to see that you can really see many attractions in a very short space of time without having to travel very far.
