My first port of call was Ford's Theatre where Lincoln was shot. That was closed.
But, to my delight across the road was the house that he died in! Not that I'm morbid.
I then pretty much walked all the way to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Yes, that's right, I had to go and see Obama's house. It's as you would expect, big, grand, but not very white. I think they are due a paint job.
After that I made my way to the Lincoln memorial. That for me was an even bigger highlight than the White house. I walked along that historic mall that takes in the Washington Monument and the Reflecting Pool, all the while your eyes are drawn towards the memorial. You know that amazing sculpture of Lincoln is in there, but you can't quite see it, maybe a hand or a foot, it's in the dark. Then all of a sudden you line yourself up in front to walk up those famous stairs and it appears! Amazing!
Once again the heat tried to get the better of me, but it's not as humid. I'm not eating much but I've started to get a taste for coffee and am surviving on iced Latte's! Could it be that I'm turning into a yank? NEVER!
Oh yeah, did I mention about the hot LAPD officer who opened the door for me at the 7 eleven back in LA? HOTNESS! It did cross my mind to do something naughty, so that he could arrest me, but I thought better of it.
(That just crossed my mind as I've just heard a siren!)
Early night tonight in prep for more walking tomorrow.
