A beautiful place to visit is Durnstein, a village on the Danube and thirty kilometers from Melk. Both are nice to saunter around, buy scarves, have schnapps and trip over snakes. Yes i did all three. Lived in Australia since 1973 and never seen a snake. Today a one meter long snake met me, decided he didn't like my high pitched voice and scampered into the scrub. Five hours later, after my thirty km ride I met another, albeit tiny snake in Melk. Since you were born here Paul, can you please explain.

The ride was the highlight of my day. Quiet bike paths and the greenest of woods speckled with beer " hauser" We had one stop 20 km into the ride at one if these hauses. Leasey, one of our ride guides, advised against imbibing large beers which is silly really as they all appear large. Still haven't worked out the contradictions of the Northern Hemisphere. Regular appears large, large appears bloody enormous and you have to pedal when it looks like you're going downhill. Perhaps it was these confusing things then and not the beers that caused Little Gary to end up in the nettle Patch to the amusement if Big Pete. A couple of such Nettle Patch falls enabled me to get in to my rightful place at the front of the pale ton for another thirty seconds before I was pushed to second last place. William was a nice man in his seventies and I agreed with his strategy of going yr own pace. Even that stretched me a tad but I did it and survived.
It's interesting docking at the pier with three other boats. Parking side by side with only twenty cm between you must walk through them to get out. Get to see them I guess.
I suspect Ali will sleep well tonight!!
