This entry is in progress as we have been having internet/travelpod probs! Hopefully thanks to the helpful guys in the forums here this will save!

So, we are in Panama City - arrived yesterday.
Today we went and visited the spectacular canal, tommorow we are heading to Casco Antiguo and then Parue Metropolitano.

Will update properley in a day or so!

Finally I can update! It was so frustrating not being able to update this site and so now we are way behind, bear with us and we shall do each entry one by one!

Panama City was modern and beautiful, of course whenever we arrive in civilisation as we know it after a while, we tend to pig out on fast food, use the internet, go book shopping and do our laundry - Panama City was not any different! (we had not had our clothes laundered since Panajachel in Guatemala and although we do wash everything by hand there is nothing like fresh, clean clothes from the washing machine!)

The Panama Canal was amazing, a true masterpiece. We were surprised how much we were both in awe of it! We paid the extra entry and visited the interesting museum, but it was so full of tourists it was difficult to get into everything. We watched two ships pass through the canal at Miraflores Locks - that was fantastic. It takes the average ship 8 hours to pass through the canal which from Pacific to Carribean or vice versa is only 80kms in length.
It was a bit of a mission to get to the canal! We missed our stop at the Plaza in the city where we needed to change buses and found ourselves back at the bus terminal we had arrived at the day before! We took another bus from there and then walked for ages around the huge plaza looking for another bus! We found it eventually and boarded, only moving when we saw the sign for the Miraflores locks and jumped off - lucky for us going back was a lot less hassle!!

Our second day in Panama city was spent trying to decide exactly how, when and where in South America we were going to go. We decided to book ourselves on a sailboat to Cartagena in Colombia via the San Blas islands - the longer route, but as it turned out the most beautiful route to take. We only found out late that night that we would definatley be leaving the next morning in a 4wd at 4am - nice! So we rushed to the huge supermarket and bought enough water, beer and rum for the trip, drew money from the ATM, enjoyed our last fast food meal in a while and tried to get some sleep before leaving at a ridiculous time the next morning!
