Brisbane was a really pretty city we really enjoyed our short amount of time there, on our second day we headed south to the Gold Coast, mmmm, I dont want to be too negative here.....but imagine beautiful beaches, sandy and crashing seas with huge waves and a few surfers, then imagine high rises and every fast food outlet you can think of and huge neon lights and billboards - you got it!! It was VERY American like, very tacky and to be honest we couldnt wait to get outta there!!
We did, drive around some of the beautiful beaches, Surfers Paradise, Nobbys Beach and then down to Burleigh Heads for lunch which was great.
From there we drove inland to a Wildlife Centre, it wasnt a zoo but it wasnt a true sanctuary either! However the animals were well cared for, had loads of room to move about and we saw animals that we wouldnt have seen in the wild - our list that day included Platypus, Wombat, Koalas, Wallabies with joeys Ali and Matt atop the Harbour Bridge

! etc etc...

The morning we left Bribane it was lashing rain, and it continued to rain until yesterday, we crossed the border into the state of New South Wales and then detoured to the absolutley beautiful Byron Bay for some Breakfast and a glimpse through the sheets of rain to the sandy bays and crashing waves.
From Byron we continued south all the way to Sydney.

Sydney is a stunning city, we are on our fourth day here now and theres still so much to see and do! The weather has been lots colder than what we have been used to, but yesterday the sun did decide to show!
On our first day here we took a bus then a train from where we are staying in the Northern suburbs of the city to the transport hub - Circular Quay. This is the place to go and get a ferry, bus or train! On one side is the magical opera House -Which is a gorgeous buuilding, and on the other side is the Harbour Bridge which is flanked on the south by an area called the Rocks, its a touristy area, but its very pretty with lots of old buildings and cobbled streets (if anyones been to Dublin think Temple Bar), we visited the busy Sunday Market at the Rocks and did a spot of shopping before heading back to our wet and cold camp Bronte Beach - Sydney

!

Yesterday we went back into the city centre and visited St Andrews Cathedral - the oldest in Australia - it was nice but having Canterbury Cathedral at home obviously some places then loose out on our ticks!
We wandered around the central area before heading back towards the bridge....it was raining in the morning and Matt joked that we may have a heat wave....about 30mins later the sun started shining and the skies turned blue!
It was fantastic as we had bravely booked the Bridgeclimb, which takes you in a group on a harness high up on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
It was brilliant, expensive and at points terrifying for me being like I am with heights, but we had a super day, the views from the top were excellent and it was an experience we shall always remember (how can you forget climbing high up a steel ladder looking down at 6 lanes of traffic and train lines !)

Today we are at Bondi (amazing beach!) and this afternoon we shall take a walk along some of the different beaches and coves....then we shall shifty on towards the Blue Mountains (maybe tommorow) and then down the 1000kms to Melbourne for our flight to NZ!

Hugs
