When we arrived we arranged to go whale watching, at this time of the year the whales have usually moved on, travelling further south to their home in the Antarctic, they make a stop at Hervey Bay enroute to nurse their babys.
We were so lucky, the whales are spotted by the water that they blow through their lungs (which are the size of a car each so we were told! Imagine!), and soon enough mother and baby were up by the side of our boat, they did the legendary tail flip and jump up, they poked their faces out of the water to say hello, they swam under the boat and back out to sea
We saw not only one, but two pods of whales, so for the time of year we were really lucky.
After our whale watching expo! We went into the rather uncharacterful town of Hervey Bay (nice but not really much happening kinda place), and did some shopping, then went to book our Fraser Island tour.
Can you believe that the day which we want and only can do it, every single place on every single tour is booked out! What could we do, oh well, its a shame, but the weather had been really rainy up there and we did cruise back to Hervey Bay after whale watching along the coast of the island, seeing the famous beach and the multi coloured cliffs - so we headed to Brisbane!
