When you stumble upon the highrise buildings, a blend of chrome and glass, luxury hotels, modern transport systems such as the monorail and shopping malls crammed with department stores and designer shops its hard to comprehend that this is the same country, that a few days ago you were driving through its rural villages, with nothing more than wooden houses and a few hawkers selling food along the streets.

But KL as it is known locally is a big city, and everything that you need is here, the streets in the Golden Triangle which is the tourists name for the CBD are clean and wide, roads are sealed and there is plenty of public transport.

We arrived yesterday on a very comfortable bus from Penang, it took around 4 hours and we passed green mountains and lush countryside on a motorway which was a little like the M25! Upon arrival in KL the rain was pouring out of the sky, we jumped in a taxi to our hotel.

Today we felt a big attractioned out! We all went to the Petronas Towers only to find that we were too late, they only allocate so many tickets each day and they had all been taken! We admired the building from the ground, its so high that you cant see the top from the bottom of the building! Off we went to the KL Menara tower, the view point there is actually higher than the view from the Petronas Towers, and it was amazing! We looked out high over Kuala Lumpur, over the green parks and skyscrapers, rows of hotels and colonial buildings blend with the chrome highrises, mosques and churches.

After that Matt and I walked down the huge KLCC Suria Shopping Mall, it was so big we wandered for an age! We shopped in Marks and Spencer, good drugstores with all the brands from home, throw in a few excellent bookshops, Topman and Body Shop and you get the idea!

So, whilst we chill out in our treat (5star hotel, air con, etc etc!!) we are busy planning the next leg of our trip, we head to Melaka on Tuesday and then down to Singapore, in a week we fly to Australia!! For the meantime Kuala Lumpur offers plenty more for us to see.
