So we arrived! On this beautiful green mountainous island, with small outlying islands and white sandy coves dotted here and there....well thats what it looked like today as we came into Kuah the main town here, on the ferry from Thailand.
We enjoyed Ko Lanta, but it was so very quiet and rarely did we venture outside of our conplex, Thailand had been great...2 months on 2 seperate trips, it was interesting and we are glad we went, but it is so touristy these days that to enjoy it more we should have visited 10 years ago. It was interesting to see the different cultures though the further south we went. Today we left Ko Lanta at 0730am and arrived in a town called Trang about 3 and a half hours later, we changed buses and took another bus further south to Satun, the people are different, mosques replaced temples and Muslims dressed ever so smartly in their outfits outnumbered everyone else, we went from a minibus with the craziest driver ever put on earth taking on the roads of southern Thailand, to a decrepit old bus, multicoloured inside with cracked windows and a Thai comedy being shown on tv so loud that it would anyone of us on that bus go deaf!
Then the ferry to Langkawi was smooth and cool, we wandered into the arrivals area at the pier, where you could easily mistake it for an airport terminal at home! Starbucks, KFC, huge glitzy stores....it was like being in another world, certainly a world away from Satun an hour away in Thailand! Pantai Cenang is the beach we are staying on, in the dark it looks white and wide....! Hugs from us...we shall be here about 6 days so shall report when we actually have something to report!!!!!
