Bottle Beach was beautiful and Ko Pha Ngan was a stunning mountainous island with white sandy beaches and clear waters, it was so nice to get somewhere and just lay on the beach, swim, snorkel and then eat a good meal..! Of course all that comes at a price, and after three nights chilling on the white sands of Bottle Beach we once again waded through the waters and jumped into a longtail boat which took us back around the headland to Chakolukum, from there we took a pick up to the port town of Thong Sala and then another across the south of the island to Hat Rin.
Hat Rin is famous and known for its full moon parties that are held once a month, we missed the full moon and so were suprised when we walked along Sunrise beach to be quoted horrendously expensive prices for accommodation, we eventually found what can only be described as wooden shacks on stilits set high up on the headland
It turned out that on our first night in Hat Rin it was the Blackmoon Party, we actually didnt know this until the next day when it seemed most of the resort cleared out! But on the beach they had music, the famous buckets...a bucket with a bottle of cheap Thai whiskey and a can of coke for 2quid! They had fire dancers and the like...it was really noisy and last night wasnt much better so we decided to move on...realising that we must be getting old as neither of us had any inclination to go down and join in the party!
This morning we took the first ferry out of there to the island of Ko Samui, a pretty well known island that is very touristy in places. We decided the spend a few days in the quieter area called Big Buddha beach, as you come into Ko Samui on the ferry you immediatley spot a huge gold painted buddha on a little island that sits at the end of the beach - hence the name! We have a really nice room, a little concrete bungalow that looks over a swimming pool..that suprise...is ours to use and is really clean

. Our bungalow offered spectacular views across the bay, it was fabulous, unfortunatly as it was in a rural area we were joined by cockroaches, spiders and mozzies on a regular basis! The climb up the steep cliffside got too much and on both nights music blasted from the beachfront bars, when we woke up at 5am and still heard the music we knew we wouldnt be staying long!It turned out that on our first night in Hat Rin it was the Blackmoon Party, we actually didnt know this until the next day when it seemed most of the resort cleared out! ! We had a swim soon after we got here, and have just strolled along the busy main road checking out the cafes and small bars...We will probably be on Koh Samui for a week, theres a lot to see here and a lot of different resorts so its likely after a few days we shall move from Big Buddha beach to someplace else....Hugs
