The ferry we caught from Chumphon to Ko Tao was unlike any of the other boats we have had the pleasure of catching! It actually moved faster than 2mph and we had a proper plank to walk on and walk off, it was a modern boat, fast and comfortable, just a little choppy in places - but all in all a good crossing.
When we got to Ko Tao we jumped in the back of a pick up, which took us the short distance to Sairee beach, Ko Tao has plenty of beaches, we chose this one because its busy, not as in really busy, Ko Tao is a fairly quiet island and we thought that if we stayed at one of the quiet places we would be far too isolated.
Unfortunatly for us, Ko Tao is a divers paradise, and if you dont dive its very difficult to secure good beachfront accommodation, I sat under a tree on the beach with our bags, whilst Matt walked almost the entire length of the beach looking for a beach hut, the best hut he could find was set back from the beach, but at the same time its a spacious, clean place to stay, at a very reasonable price (of course it only became reasonable after some "Matt haggling!".
Last night we sat on the beach enjoying the refreshing sea breeze, we drank a few cold Chang beers (our Thai favourite!) and ate barracuda which was dispayed on a boat that you choose your fish and seafood off at the front of the restaurant - it was scrumptious.
The beach here isnt exactly idyllic or quiet, but its pretty, theres a lot of debris on the beach which is a real shame, but the 8 different shades of blue that you can see in the sea more than makes up for it.
Its good to be back by the sea, and nice to not have to bump around on buses, now we just have to put ourselves back in beach bum mode, instead of general bum mode and we shall be ok!
Hoping to do a boat trip on a longtail around the island and then head across to Ko Phan Ngan in a few days for some more r and r!
Hugs
Ali n Matt
