Its small and the streets are narrow, most are just pathways, old traditional style buildings line the streets, they are painted yellow, the yellow is now fading - it just adds to the look and the laid back atmosphere of the town.
At the far end of the town there is river, which is always busy, little boats sail back and forth with passengers and bikes all day long.
The streets boast small cafes and restaurants, where you can enjoy a delicious Vietnamese meal or just cool down in the shade with a drink - as you can imagine we have partaken in both!
There is a huge central market, locals selling foods and fake anything and everything
Yesterday we succumbed to one of the tailors, we still dont actually know how you choose one shop from all the others, but we did. We were rallied in and put down in front of a fan to cool us from the scorching heat, given ice cold bottled water and shown of all things Next Directory catalogue!! The walls of the shop are hidden with shelf after shelf of fabric, linen, silk, cotton - you name it, they have it! And so you choose what design you would like from the books, then the material, then the colour - she then measured us and told us to come back the next day - that day being today.
In we trot this morning, the curtain was pulled around the changing area, the lady ushered Matt into the room and then showed us the garments she had made, we couldnt believe our eyes - they are exactly as we wanted at a fraction of the price back home, made to measure - they were perfect - we are delighted - and we have a whole new wardrobe, well you know a few items to wear out of the backpack!!!!
So, armed with our new outfits - copied straight out of the next brochure (but with the money going directly to the lady that made them, not a big wig who did sod all to deserve the cash!?!) we are relaxing after a hard morning of trying on new clothes and choosing some more, tommorow we are going to the ancient Cham Temple complex at nearby My Son, and the day after that we are heading south again.
Matts loving the footie as you can imagine.....all thats left to say is.....COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ali and Matt (in a very hot Vietnam!)
