Durban

Coffee Bay was a really small, pretty, African village. The scenery and beaches were stunning, We took a day tour into one of the Xhosa villages that surround Coffee Bay, it was sooo interesting, we got to meet a Sangoma (a witch doctor), drank the local Xhosa beer Juba in a Shebeen, and walked through the hills to a beautiful waterfall and saw the sacred pools, we even ate a traditional Xhosa meal in a round thatched hut and met loads of children and people who live in the village. It was a hardgoing, but extremely interesting day. Next morning Matt was up at 6am and went out and hit the waves for an hour or so, after that the weather took a turn for the worse, and it started raining!

Yesterday we drove for 9 hours north to the big cosmopolitan city of Durban. The weather on the way was just dreadful, we had to drive on windy rounds through the mountains and the drizzly rain made the conditions really difficult, but we took it slow and arrived here in one piece (or 2 !?!).

We are staying in a really nice hostel in the northern suburb of Durban called Umgeni, its small and is just like a home, well it is the owners home and they rent out rooms. We have the caravan in the garden which is fun and different!

From what we have seen so far, Durban is really nice, today we drove north to a huge shopping mall called Gateway and went to the Imax theatre. Tommorow its New Years Eve, and we are going to go sightseeing in the day...maybe to the Mosque and Indian Markets, USharka and the Snake Park! Then in the evening we are going down to North Beach where there shall be a marquee, a bbq and a party until we all drop!
