Wow what a trip!
We had such a great time in Namibia, Matt climbed Dune 45 at 5.30am to see the sunrise and we saw the stunning Sossusvlei in the Namibian desert, we walked the route around the amazing Fish River canyon and went on to visit the Ghost town of Kolmanskop.
Upon leaving Namibia we stayed the night just over the border on the Orange River and then the next morning continued on to Springbok and down into the gorgeous Cedarberg mountains and camped for the last time in a town called Citrusdal set amongst Orange groves.
As our previous entry states we sipped far too many wines in and around the city of Stellenbosch and then continued onto Cape Town
Cape Town is a stunning city, and its so western and modern that at times it actually doesnt feel like we are still in Africa, its soooo different from all of the other places and countries which we have visited on this continent.
Its actually really nice to be back in a city where everything is on our doorstep..hot showers, shops! good food and decent tarmac roads.
The day we arrived we got a local minibus to Long Street which is the backpackers hub in Cape Town, we checked into our hostel and hit the shops! Saturday morning we collected our car which we have for a month until we drop it off in JoBurg, its great having the independance to go and do whatever we want again.
We said goodbye to the group from the truck in style at a bar called Quay 4 on the slightly pretentious V&A Waterfront on Friday night, it was a good night and we enjoyed everyones company even though we were delighted to be set free from truck routine.
We visited the gorgeous Bloubergstrand beach north of the city on Saturday morning, it has superb views across to Table mountain and we watched the kite surfers hitting the big waves of the Atlantic ocean, we drove south of the city in the afternoon and marvelled at the scenery around Camp Bay and Houts Bay before driving back into the city centre where we are staying
Cape Town offers so much, there is just so much to see its unreal, we had a really relaxing Sunday driving a couple of hours south of Cape Town city onto the Peninsula where we visited Cape Point and the most South Western point of Africa the Cape Of Good Hope, we saw a Whale and a baby Whale off of one of the beaches in the national park which was just amazing!
After the National Park we drove north towards the city and stopped at the famous Boulders Beach and saw the Penguin colony there, they were such amazing animals, much smaller than we imagined them to be, but just breathtaking...imagine penguins on a white sandy beach! The waters around the Cape Peninsula are freezing, standing on the coast you feel the hot African sun behind you and the breeze from the sea hitting your face is ice cold...the waters come straight from the Antarctic which obviously explains it!
We spent yesterday evening on the V&A Waterfront, looking around the shops and then enjoying our first fish n chip meal since we left home....!
Today we have spent the morning here in the internet cafe uploading piccies from all of our Africa trip....PLEASE ENJOY THEM! Go all the way back to the Kampala entry and we have uploaded as many as poss, we hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed being there.
This afternoon we are off to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned, and later this evening we hope to go up Table Mountain and view the city from the top and from the revolving cable cars...weve just got to hope that there isnt high winds because its too far to walk up and that the Tablecloth isnt there (the huge cloud that covers the top of the mountain quite often)
Tommorow we then hope to drive down towards the start of the garden route and spend a couple of nights in Mossel Bay which is 5 hours from here.
Love hugs and kisses.....
