What an amazing past few days, once again on this trip something has taken our breath away and there is absolutly no way to describe how simply amazing our 3 days on safari was.
Going back, when we arrived into Tanzania we stayed the night just outside of a small town called Arusha, this town has lots of traditional Masaai villages surrounding it, and we were lucky enough to be able to visit one of these, the children there were beautiful and wanted to hold your hand and play...sooo sweet..we were able to actually go inside one of there homes and see exactly how they live, we watched one of the ladies having here head shaved and some of the other were preparing their dinner and peeling vegetables...it was a great experience.
Early the next morning we were collected in 4wd and taken to the Serengeti, the drive was about 5 hours, sometimes on tarmac roads that we have at home and other times on unmade roads that would throw you all over the jeep! We actually thought that after a day or so on safari we would be bored and just want to get back, once you have seen one wild animal you have seen them all right? Wrong...I could gaze at the black and white stripes of the zebras all day long, we could gaze up and watch the giraffe eating from the trees all day long, and seeing a cheetah up close before it ran away, and a whole pride of lions just snoozing in the wild was simply wonderful and like nothing we have ever experienced in our lifes before...one thing we will say...is that everyone should go on safari at least once in their life...and i can assure you that you will never visit a zoo again !
We stayed for 2 nights in very basic camps, there was a squat loo and no showers or any other facilities, we ate around a camp fire and went to the loo before climbing back into our tent..you can get up and go to the loo at night because animals just wander around your tents....on our second night when we stayed on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater there were zebra about 10metres away and bush pigs sniffing around our tents at night! You couldnt have any food in your tents either because this would attract the animals and just asking for trouble! Yes...we were terrified on our first night!
As its the dry season here, and a lot of the animals have migrated into the Masaai Mara in Kenya until the wet season comes in again, we never expected to see so many animals, we were sooo lucky to see what we did, a leopard perched on the ground just watching us from afar, hundreds of zebra and wildebeest, monkeys and baboons, lots and lots of buffalo, elephants, cheetah, lions, hyena, hippo...all of the main big animals except rhino...and lots of other small animals like mongoose and baboons...this was in both the Ngorongoro crater and the Serengeti...where in both the scenery was perfect and amaing.
One of the main things which we saw and will never forget...was this...
a pride of lions walking through the Serengeti in a straight line, about 7 of them...zebra and gazelles just standing still like statues watching where the lions were going, the lions had the attitude that if I wanna eat you I will....they really are king of the jungle! Just watch the Lion King and see how they parade around on that and you will know exactly what I mean!! Hahaha!
Love hugs and miss you all....
