We are still here in Kampala and will now be here until early Sunday morning instead of Saturday, the reason for this is because we received an email from John who is to be our driver on the overland truck which we have booked and he said that we shall be staying a day extra here before making our way down to Kabale and into the Bwindi Park which is in the southwest of the country, near to the Congo and Rwanda borders.
The reason for heading down to Bwindi is basically to track the mountain gorillas, there are only a few hundred left in the world, they are an endangered species and luckily for us there are about 300 of them living in the Bwindi Park, its something like an 8 hour journey down to that part of the country, and the trek is usually quite difficult, through the rainforest where it can be very steep and difficult in places! But it will be absolutly amazing being only a few metres from the gorillas!
Yesterday we explored Kampala, we visited the market and walked through the city centre, mainly sorting out bits and bobs in the bank and shops with things that we need for when we leave here, it was really great, we took a minibus from near our hostel which drove us onto the main stretch in Kampala...Called Kampala road!
Obviously the minibus was full of locals, driving at speed with the most amazing African music playing! The streets were packed full of people, some selling their wares on rugs in front of them along the street, some dressed in traditional dress, others dressed in smart suits....it was a fabulous experience, and obviously we stuck out like sore thumbs!
We are both really looking forward to Friday when the overland truck comes in, from then on with a few exceptions we shall be camping, sometimes in proper campsites and other times bush camping. Hopefully there shall be a good mix of people on the truck, and we all have one thing in common already and weve not even met....to get to Cape Town!
On Saturday we shall be going to Ngamba Island which is located south of Entebbe in Lake Victoria, its a sanctuary for chimpanzees and you get so see them feeding as well as being in their own natural habitat (well to a certain extent anyway!)
So, thats all for now, nothing of importance to report really as we are just chilling until the truck arrives when it will be all systems go
The weather had perked up and its much hotter here now!
Love and hugs and big fat sloppy kisses
