Yesterday was our final day in the Middle East and the day that we fly further down the continent into Africa proper. We kept busy yesterday, visiting both the Islamic and Coptic Christian areas of Cairo, going into a mosque during prayer time for a little Baksheesh (tip)! Climbing up to the citadel and enjoying some fabulous views across Cairo. In the afternoon we went to the Egyptian Museum which was amazing in capital letters! We paid the extra to get into the Royal Mummies Room, which was both funny, fascinating and sick!

Our flight left Cairo on time at 2315, and we landed in Entebbe airport around 3.30am after a really good flight with Egyptair, we were most suprised that they were so good, we ate salmon on the plane and watched a fim, whilst snuggled into our blankets and flight socks that they provided, we both slept for a bit as well, the flight was one of the best.

We were met at Entebbe airport, which was much smaller and quieter than we expected, obtained our visas without any problems, as it was late at night and its dangerous to travel in Africa at night we arranged previously for the guy from the hostel to collect us, he was there in the arrivals hall holding a card with our name on it, we met and walked across to the car to take us the 35kms from Entebbe to Ugandas capital city - Kampala.

First impressions as we drove from the airport to the hostel was just how much like home it is! We guess that makes sense as the Brits ruled here until as late as 1962, even so, there was fog, and dew as we walked across the grass in our flip flops...it was mad, for 8 weeks we havent experienced that at all, just sweltering heat!

Our hostel is in a safe compound on teh outskirts of Kampala, it seems really nice, we slept for much of today in our small concrete hut, surrounded by our mozzie net and the smell of mozzie repellant! The hostel has a bar, and tonight there is a bar b q which should be fun!

We are just going to take it easy, visit Kampalas main sights, which seem to be Cathedrals, Mosques and tombs, theres also a huge market here too, until the 30th when we shall be met by an overland truck which will take us deeper into Uganda.

Its actually refreshing to be in a place, where the main language is English, the roadsigns and buildings look familiar, food is like from home (I had a real Bacon sarnie earlier on real bread and Matt a BLT!!!) and the weather is sooooo much cooler!

Love, Hugs, Kisses................

Ali and Matt
