In Luxor we visited the Karnak Temple again in the day and walked by the Luxor Temple which you can almost see from outside. We also visited the mummification museum which was amazing, there was a real mummy there, all of the tools and the proccess was explained as well, it was a small musuem and you could see it in about half an hour but it was one of the best musuems weve ever visited.
We arrived into Rameses train station in Cairo at around 6am this morning, we caught the train by the skin of our teeth, we left the hotel 10mins before our train was due to depart...after we were let down by the guy who was supposed to pick us up! Anyway, the train was fine, apart from the fact that we shared our cabin with a right prima donna who did nothing but complain about the journey for the 1st few hours, luckily she soon fell asleep and the rest of us read and slept.
We were met by Mohammed Ali (!!!) our taxi driver at Cairo train station who drove us to our hostel, which is central in the downtown area of the city. We were so tired that we slept until 12 midday! We took a taxi to a suburb of the city called Maadi, and visited a huge shopping centre, seriously you could have been in Bluewater, its in the upmarket part of the city and it so showed, brand name shops and people who spoke fluent English, its such a huge difference from the poverty stricken areas that we have seen so far. We bought our sleeping bags for Africa, and a huge box of Cadburys Fruit and Nut!!! Soooo chuffed when we spotted that!
Cairo is suprisingly clean, and a really nice city, its actually the nicest of the Arab cities that we have visited so far, our hostel is clean and nice too.
Tommorow we are going to visit the Pyramids at Giza, and then down to Memphis and Saqqara which are just south of Cairo, on Saturday we are going to visit the Egyptian musuem, and the Khan El Khali which is a huge bazaar in the Islamic section of the city before we go to the airport and fly down to Uganda!
Love, Hugs and Kisses
