Well, we are now in the city of Aqaba which is located on the gulf of Aqaba just up from the red sea, we can see Eilat in Israel from the waterfront which is quite amazing!
We arrived here late this afternoon after spending 2 fun, exciting but exhausting days in the beautiful Jordanian Desert - Wadi Rum.
On our first day, we took a bus from Petra at 6am and arrived into Wadi Rum just after 8am, our Bedouin guide met us at the visitors centre and off we went to the village for a coffee - which was much needed as we had been up since 5am!!
We spent that whole day in an opentop jeep, exploring the beautiful desert, the different sands, where the white meets the red was absolutly amazing, there were rock mountains and rock bridges, camels wandering around and every so often we would come across a bedouin tent and see their herds of goats or sheep....it was stunning
We sat on a huge sand dune and watched the sunset...again it was beautiful. After sunset, but before it got dark, we wandered down to our camp for the night, we sat on cushions with the locals, the only thing separating us and the sand was a light rug between us, we ate a gorgeous dinner of rice and chicken, and a potato and vegetable mix and looked up at the stars, there were soooo many it was like a black blanket of stars, we even saw the Milky Way which was a stunning site, the white mixed with the black sky and the stars. At about 9.30pm we went into our tent to settle down to sleep for the night.
It was a bit freaky sleeping in the desert, fun but weird, no sound whatsoever, except for the wind blowing the sand and the tent.
We awoke at about 6.30am this morning and ate breakfast at our camp, around 8.30am our guide came with our camels which we proceeded to ride for the whole day around the desert, we even saw baby camels which were wild obviously!!
Late afternoon we took a taxi here to Aqaba, which is a city, but also a big tourist town, we leave here in the morning for Egypt
When we arrived we took a shower, which was amazing, as obviously there were no shower facilities in the desert and we both stunk like pigs in that heat! Our bums and tops of our legs are aching like hell from the camels today! But its an easy price to pay for experiencing what we have just experienced.
Love and hugs to everyone
Ali and Matt
