We arrived into Petra yesterday after taking a straightforward minibus direct from Amman.
Our accommodation here is fantastic, its really clean and friendly, unlike the hostel we stayed in in Amman which was an absolute shithole!

Today we went and explored Petra, we were up at 6am this morning to be ready for our lift from the hostel at 7am!! We needed to get there early though because otherwise the heat would have been unbearable. It was really hot as it was, walking back, we spent almost 8 hours at the site- which made the 21 pounds entrance fee each feel a bit better!

It was such an amazing place, really beautiful, as its all made from sandstone in different lights the colour changed which was spectacular to see After the 1hour uphill hike to the monastrey!!
After the 1hour uphill hike to the monastrey!!
.
As you enter the site you walk 1.5kms down what is like a canyon, then all of a sudden you see the treasury which is hidden between the 2 narrow walls of the canyon, and you walk out to it where its set in a square....it was truly breathtaking.

We walked the whole site, saw the royal tombs and even took the 1 hour walk up the mountain to see the monastrey and the fabulous views across the countryside and mountains. It was a struggle as it was sooooo hot and we are soooo unfit but we made it and it was SO worth it.

The place really was spectacular and we loved it, but there were so many touts there trying to get you to take a horse or a camel (?!) and it stunk of their poos big time! Consequently there were tons and tons of flys which do your head in after a while, but hey it was worth putting up with them to see what we saw today!
Tommorow we leave and take the 6am bus to Wadi Rum where as ive already said in a previous post we take our camel/jeep safari in the desert.

So, I doubt that we shall have internet access until we arrive in Egtypt which is estimated to be Thursday/Friday.

We love you all soooo much, and love receiving all your emails.

Ali and Matt
