We were collected Friday night by a shuttle bus that was taking us out to the Otogar which is the Turkish name for the bus station, not 5 minutes after leaving the bus driver drove straight into another van!! We were laughing our heads off, there was nothing else we could do but hold on tight, Matt described the journey as a near death experience....but not to worry we got here in one piece, Istanbul drivers are just maniacs!! We arrived at the otogar in plenty of time and found our bus, which was really comfy and air conditioned, and set off on our 10 hour journey down to Selçuk, the 10 hour journey soon turned into a 12 hour journey as the bus stopped numerous times at tyre shops throughout the country! Apparantley this is a common problem on Turkish buses, at about 4.30am we stopped again, this time in a huge garage and off came the tyre! it was hilarious if we diddnt laugh we would have cried!!
Eventually we arrived in Selçuk and the hostel arranged a taxi to collect us from the Otogar, we drove up into the mountains to where we are staying.....an AMAZING PLACE! Set in the mountains its a beautiful little hideaway, we were greeted with a hot breakfast, Turkish chillis and peppers with scrambled eggs and some hot bread....and a MUG of coffee! Beautiful.
Our room here looks over the pool and is a wooden and brick hut, its gorgeous! We get dinner and breakfast included in the price and they have a happy hour the cocktails are fabulous!
Yesterday we went to the ancient city of Ephesus....it was absolutley breathtaking, we dodged all the bloody tour groups who were a complete hassle, we had a fabulous day! After explorıng Ephesus we went into Selçuk town and ate a cheap lunch, went into a carpet shop and was talking to a local guy who gave us strawberry tea in little glasses!
Last night was a craaaaaazy night, we have met us with two ozzie girls who we drunk the bar dry with....Matt was having the time of his life...dancing, playing pool and drinking beer!
We are going to stay up here a bit longer than we planned because its just lush, tommorow we are going to visit Pammukale which is three hours away, and we have booked on a gulet cruise from Fethiye to Olympos on the 16th August, one of us will have a cabin and the other will need to sleep on the deck! It visits loads of small secluded beaches on the way ,and looks beautiful, its expensive but seems to be the backpacker thing to do here so we booked on....means we shall be in Turkey longer than originally planned.....but we dont need to be in Cairo until the 24th september for a flight so we have a while!!!
Gonna do a paraglide over Olu Deniz beach later this week too!!!
Miss you loads and love you all tons and tons.....having THE TIME OF OUR LIFES!!!!!!
