This past weekend, we got to go on a day trip to Siena with our class. We rode on a double decker bus, and because my roomates and I were at the beginning of the line, we got the front seats on the top of the bus. It was so cool. Almost like riding an amusement park ride. Siena was over an hour away, and when we got there, we took a walking tour around the city. We saw lots of churches, and old buildings. Siena was competing with Florence for attention when Florence built it's Duomo (big church), so Siena built it's own Duomo. We had the chance to tour that Duomo too. The architecture and age of these buildings are awesome. As we are walking around the cities, I am continually in awe of the city. It's amazing. After we took a quick tour of the city, and ate lunch, the group got back on the bus to stop at another town/old castle ruin type place. This town was the home of the defending champion of the best gelato (italian ice cream) in the world. Our Professor (the Duke) bought a few of us some of the ice cream and it was very good. It was my second cone for the day ( and within 2 hours too...) While we were there, we also got to climb a tower to see a view of the city. It was an awesome view. It was a little scary climbing up and down though because the stairs were just the metal grates with only one handrail, and you could see the whole way to the bottom. Going up was a little easier than going down, but I made it. We walked around the town a little bit longer and then headed home. Both cities were gorgeous, and we took lots of pictures, but boy does it get tiring when you have to walk everywhere!
