Day Two of the Big Island road trip.
We camped just outside the entrace to Akaka falls. Woke up, nobody around AT all, had the whole place and all the waterfalls completely to ourselves. So checked out Akaka falls and a couple other wterfalls, then continued on our way.
Ryan and Christie had the map and planned everything out - it was nice! Although I don't know where exactly everything was that we visited, just that we always covered quite a bit of the island. After the falls we watched some people surf and boogie board, then went swimming in a pool heated by a volcano.
We visited Mauna Loa which sells all the Macadamia nuts
For Thanksgiving dinner we ate at Ken's in Hilo. Ironically it's famous for its breakfast. It was a great meal though. For dessert there was either choice of pumpkin pie or macadamia pie. I went with macadamia. I figured it was a bit more Hawaiian :)
In the afternoon we drove up to Mauna Kea to watch the sunset and for stargazing at night. They had telescopes out at the visitor's center. It was much, much colder than we all imagined it would be, but a beautiful night and some of the brightest stars I've ever seen.
