In the past week I have become even more appreciative of the fact that I have Chris to travel with. He spent quite a bit of time this week resting in bed with a flu and for really the first time since we have been in Guatemala I set out into the city on my own. Not out of the house a few minutes I was honked at, whistled at and even leered at once. And just so you have the entire picture I was wearing an old pair of baggy pants that have a few nasty permanent stains and a sweater that has also seen better days. Seriously, not cute at all. To be honest, none of this felt threatening in the least, more just vaguely annoying.

So more importantly our time in Xela has come to an end. After six weeks of intensive Spanish lessons I am finally feeling like I might actually have a grasp on this language. I've learned more tenses than I know what to do with. Did you know there is a perfect and imperfect form for expressing the past, present and future?¿? And please do not even mention the progressivo 01_The Snack Guy

. Happily I am now able to say pretty much anything I want to, though it may take me five minutes to get my point across and I will likely throw in a few 'spanglish' style words. Above all, I am quite pleased with myself for having made it through the first one hundred pages of Harry Potter y la piedra filosofo.

But now it is time to head off.....let the real travel begin!!!!

(The pics from this entry are a mish mash of scenes I liked in Xela, our favourite spots to hangout, good memories and a little trip to the cemetery with my teacher on my last day of class)
