Another visit to a nearby village, San Cristobel gave us much welcome respite from the incessant diesel fumes of the city and a glimpse into rural life.

No one, not even the teachers enacting as our guides, had previously been to the nearby waterfalls so together we ventured into the unknown. We started out up a hill offering a splendid vista of the village set within hillsides checkered with farm fields. Then down again and we had essentially walked a rather large loop. Directions from a friendly farmer obtained and we were off again in the correct direction.

Along a river and through farm fields we strolled. A group of children laugh while watching a small boy attempts to exert some control over a pigs that appears about three times his size with a short piece of rope 01_the hiking group

. Farmers load corn and the biggest radishes I´ve seen into a truck. Cows stare as we pass.

The riverside and its environs are hardly pristine. As is the case where ever we´ve been in the country side random rubbish litters the land. But the scene is somehow lovely despite the ubiquitous junk.

A turn onto a path and we are walking beneath imposing cliffs in a field on knee high grass. The air transitions from arid to humid and we are beneath the falls, a spectacular cascade of white water spraying over the cliff. Chris and I lay like lizards enjoying the mist and breeze of the falls. Bliss.
