In the tourist guide books, San Juan del Sur has been painted as the ULTIMATE beach retreat – must claim that name for a reason; so at the end of our orientation week, we hopped onto a taxi to check it out.  The town was quite empty… we walked along the beach to pick a restaurant (haa.. according to my guide book, it was the most expensive restaurant in town… great job.) the food was alright, not outstanding… we had a view of the beach, which was nice enough - wasn’t sure it lived up to all the hype though (haha wow.. how tepid can you get?) although we did run into this beaaaaaautiful little ocelot.  Claire, Eliseo and I jumped into the water, and had fun hanging out – so much that we left San Juan del Sur a little too late, aaaaand we missed the last bus back to Las Salinas O_O we ended up getting a ride back with one of the señoras who works in the alcaldía, (mayor’s office) who was bringing a pick up truck full of people back – Claire and I rode in the back of the truck with 5 other guys - mind you, it is about an hour and a half ride from Tola to Las Salinas on an extremely bumpy and unpaved road, which made for an eventful ride.  It oscillated between enjoying the cool night air whilst conversing with the locals under the starry sky (one of them turned out to be Martita’s, my supervisor, brother who is a turtle conservationalist!!) and nearly suffocating from the cloud of dust that the truck would kick up every time we halted.  This, we would find, is actually transport a la mode in Nicaragua.  Even though San Juan del Sur turned out to be a let down, the adventure of a truck ride made up for it
