Hello there,
Welcome to the first ever entry in our nifty wee travelogue! I received some rather rude comments from those nearest and dearest to me (ie my lovely sister Nooze) when I mentioned I was planning on keeping an on-line diary (the word "nerd" was bantered about) but I don't care - I have spent quite a bit of time in recent months reading about other peoples' experiences on this web site, so I thought I might as well join the fun myself. Besides, I want to keep a journal of what we do, but I tend to be incredibly lazy after the first couple of days of a trip - so, I figure that if I put it on the internet and people actually DO read this and want to hear more, then that might just be the motivation I need to keep updating it! So please, if you do read this and like it/don't like it, feel free to drop me a line - any feedback will be most appreciated! By the way, though this is called "Ali AND Cam's" travelogue, I suspect that it will be me, Ali, doing most (actually probably all) of the writing, cos that's the way these plans of mine usually work out. But you never know, stranger things have happened, and you might just come across an entry from CFiddy(his alias)if you're especially lucky - you'll just have to stay tuned to find out!
OK, so I am going to try not to be too verbose (we haven't even started yet!) but just wanted to outline our plans and the like at this stage (with less than 2 weeks to go, eeek! Excited but a little nervous!!)
Anyway, after quite a bit of lonely planet and internet research, it looks like the SE Asian leg of our travels will be something like this:
May 11 - Fly into Bangkok
May 14 - Head to Siem Reap, Cambodia
May 17 - Slow boat or bus down to Phnom Penh
May 21 - Mekong Delta trip to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
May 25 - Work our way up through Vietnam from South to North, via Nha Trang, Hue, Hoi An, Hanoi, Halong Bay, Sapa....
mid June - Somehow get from North Vietnam to Luang Prabang, Northern Laos
late June - slow boat again from Laos to Thai border, then head towards Chaing Mai
early July - work our way back to Bangkok and down to Koh Chang for a few beach days to finish if we feel the need
10 July - fly back to Osaka, a couple of days of recharging on sushi and karaoke before...
13 July - fly to Heathrow. From there, who knows what will happen - either we will buy a van and a tent and continue the travelling theme and tootle around Europe for a few months (this is the preferred option of course! anything to put off working!) or, maybe, we will stop in the UK for a while and try and get a job and some more funds before doing the travelling thing. We'll see...
So that's the plan at this stage. The dates (apart from the flights) are random, we'll just see what happens, I hope 2 months is long enough to do and see lots of stuff but not feel like we have to race around from place to place. As long as we don't try to see everything I think we'll be ok.
