So we have settled for now in the great southern city of Sydney! I think it has to be up there amongst the top of my favorite big cities in the world (London still tops for me).

We have spent some time getting to know the surrounding areas, partly due to pangs of wanderlust, partly due to the necessity of sourcing employment and accommodation. Bryan as usual taking initiative had a contract job lined up within a week out in Ryde, northwest of the CBD. He started leaving me with no job, few career opportunities (without too much commitment) and plenty of time to sit and think about it all. It seems that most of my industry is located well outside the city. So I'm looking into other avenues for the time being.

We are staying in a well run hostel sandwiched on the craziness that it George's street, between Chinatown and Haymarket. Darling Harbour is only a short walk away. We've explored these areas as well as the CBD, Circular Quay, Darlinghurst, Kings Cross (which is rough as a badgers arse), North Sydney, Bondi junction, Bronte and Manly. Every area has it's own little heart and soul. So much so that Sydney is aptly called a city of villages.

The domain, botannical gardens and the rocks are my favourite areas of the city so far. Typical country woman that I am, I can't bear to be too far from the greenery! Manly beach is really charming at this time of the year. I'm sure when the deluge of tourists arrives in a few weeks time, the charm may be diluted slightly.

I haven't been great with the camera so far here since we've been job hunting and such. Also I should mention that we randomly bumped into an ex-teacher, ex-DJ friend of ours who we haven't seen in years. It seems it takes to travel to the other side of the world to meet locals from home! Same in meeting a school friend of ours who happens to be on work exchange here. We went out last Friday with him and some of his colleagues. Kings Cross is more bearable with a few scoops already down in the belly! But alas the weekend is over and the job hunting must continue before I get too used to being a kept woman... ;-)
