Well, what can I say - here we are in Kolkata and we thought it would be cooler as it supposed to be 10 degrees less than Delhi, but as it is so humid it actually feels worse. Very sticky & muggy with worse traffic than Delhi - but first lets recap on the last few days.
After having what we thought was our best and cheapest meal in the hotel on Friday we had an early night, ready for our early start again in the morning. On leaving Jaipur we started our travel back to Delhi, stopping at Amber Fort on the way, where we had our first elephant ride up a long steep winding slope to the Fort - poor elephant!! Did have a picture to show you, but our driver took the photo, cut both our heads off and did not get the elephant in - so I deleted it!! Having said that, the man in the internet shop is still trying to work out how I can add these picture on anyway - please be patient!!
Didnt get ripped off at this fort because we decided to go it alone and not bother with a local guide, this was a good idea as it was midday and boiling hot, we scuttled quickly from shade to shade between the marble columns around the kings seat in the middle of the court just to keep out of the sun and after a very brief visit decided to make our descent back down to the car - one fort very much beginning to look like any other!
Arriving back in Delhi, Louise was beginning to feel the stirrings of something in her belly, yes you've guessed it Delhi Belly had arrived, after being up most of the night Louise said she wanted to stay in the guest house as she did not feel able to leave the comforts of the guest house toilet. I went for a little walk and ended up finding a shopping centre with a M&S, Adidas & MacDonalds (but without any beefburgers as they dont eat beef out here)!! Louise slept most of the morning and in the afternoon we watched TV. Early evening Lou was feeling alittle better so we went back to the shopping centre, deciding to skip the indian food and ended up with a very nice Pizza Express, costing less than half it would back in UK. But alas Delhi Belly had already set in and it was my turn to be up all night - very much a repetition of Saturday, we stayed in on Sunday too! We have both watched more crappy TV movies in the last two days than in the last six months! Another early night after a wasted journey across Delhi looking for the 24hr chemist (due to city smog, my chest has got worse and we decided some cough mixture was required) however, we couldnt find it and decided to give up, but the taxi driver didnt want to give up and we had to shout at him in the end to take us home!
Both woke up this morning feeling much better and headed off to the airport to catch our flight at 6.15 to Kolkata. Bit of disappointing end to Delhi as we were having such a good time, but better we had in the comfort of the guest house.
Now in Kolkata, which is much more run down than Delhi, the poverty is greater here and there seems to be a much lower standard of living - not sure we are going to enjoy this part of the trip as much but lets wait and see. Certainly looking forward to Darjeeling to escape the heat.
Love to everyone Ali & Lou xxxx
